GOVERNMENT AWARDS K35 MILLION CONTRACTS FOR THE REHABILITATION OF CHILOMBO-KATOYA ROAD.

September 5th, 2024- Government, acting through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, has awarded a contract to Farokan Limited for rehabilitation of 25 kilometre stretch of Chilombo-Katoya Road to all-weather friendly status. The project, priced at Thirty-Five Million Seven Hundred Sixty-Three Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Six Kwacha Fifty Ngwee (ZMW 35,763, 166.5), is intended to make the road safer and more accessible.

The contract will involve gravelling of 25 Kilometers, including construction of drainage systems and culverts. The new road will be designed to withstand various weather conditions, reducing the risk of damage and ensuring a smooth journey for road users.

Reacting to the award of the contract, Kaoma Town Council Chairperson, His Worship Cllr. Tauzeni Libinga expressed confidence that the construction of Chilombo-Katoya Road will have a positive socio-economic impact on the local community and the district.

The project is part of the Government’s effort to improve road network and foster business growth in Kaoma District. For years, the Chilombo-Katoya Road has been in a deplorable state, preventing Katoya community from accessing some basic socio-economic services. Last month, Government awarded K1.3 billion contract to China GEO Engineering for the construction to bituminous standard of Tateyoyo-Katunda road and other roads in Kaoma district.
